In April, CNN declared that America was in the midst of a “transgender moment.” Diane Sawyer’s interview with reality TV star and Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner had just aired, and television shows like Transparent and Orange Is the New Black introduced transgender characters. Laverne Cox was one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People and graced the cover of their magazine in 2014.
How, then, are we to help, support and encourage trans* students at our colleges and universities? At the 2015 annual NASPA conference in New Orleans LA, Jesus Hernandez and Beth Hopkins of Texas A&M University offered some excellent suggestions in their presentation, “Time for T: Serving and Supporting Trans* Students.”
